Love Yourself First

Love Yourself First

"Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things."

1 Corinthians 13:7 (KJV)

Love, a feeling so beautiful and transformative. In our last blog post, we discussed how we can develop confidence within by healing the solar plexus chakra. This blog post will allow us to see how the heart chakra allows us feelings of self-love to flourish.

The heart chakra, which is the fourth chakra in the seven chakra system. It is located in the middle of our chest. It is associated with how we show love and compassion to ourselves and others enhancing our ability to create healthy and long-lasting relationships. A blocked heart chakra can physically manifest as breathing and heart-related issues. Emotional symptoms are feelings of dependency, jealousy, defensiveness, and fear of intimacy.

Have you ever wondered why the relationships you find yourself in whether they be romantic or platonic don't seem to bring you any fulfillment or why no one seems to love you in the way you wish to be loved? The reason is that you're looking for it outside of yourself instead of trying to establish self-love. You are constantly looking for validation from others without knowing what truly fills your heart.

The problem with seeking validation from others instead of from yourself is that outside validation can change and nine times out of ten it comes from those who frankly don't even matter. Now, this may be a tough pill to swallow for some, especially in the social media era where outside validation is often viewed as a necessity. This is why restoring your concept of self-love is important when trying to heal the heart chakra.

To identify and establish self-love, you need to ask yourself, what is my definition of love? There is no right answer to this question. Your answers will help you determine what practices are needed for you in how you want to love yourself. When we learn how to love ourselves first, we begin to develop healthy boundaries in our relationships, open our hearts more, and learn to stop seeking validation from others.

How do you heal your heart chakra? Here are some methods you can try out.

  1. Show compassion to a random person.
  2. Forgive yourself for accepting less than you deserve.
  3. Try to incorporate the color green (the color of the heart chakra) into your life.
  4. Say or write these heart chakra affirmations
  • I am worthy of love.
  • I release all feelings of resentment.
  • I live in harmony with myself and with others.
  • My heart is filled with love and compassion.
